Beattie Co undertook a total overhaul of this two-storey house, one of three in a terrace uniquely hemmed into an early quarry. The subject of a 300-page Conservation Management Plan, heritage aspects were central to all interventions.
Using an elegant steel structure and sophisticated sliding doors, courtyard and living space were connected. This courtyard and the creation of new internal lightwells were key to unlocking the interior spaces. A considered colour scheme brings a sense of fun and character. Given the constrained site, the entire build was ‘managed through the front door’. This challenging project was made possible with the collaboration of a highly committed client and builder.
